Review: Max Factor Colour Elixir Lipstick

IMG_4716

I treated myself to yet another red lipstick. I thought I’d try Max Factor Colour Elixir, as I was kinda intrigued by it’s claims of being moisturising. I went for shade 715, Ruby Tuesday. So how did I find it?

IMG_4718 The lipstick is a nice bullet-tip, and I was quite chuffed with the X engraved in it. That’s quite cool. I found the application very smooth, and it gives really good coverage with only one coat. I personally prefer to blot and add a second layer, but if you’re not a fan of that method, this lipstick looks great with just the one swipe.

The colour is gorgeous, it looks sort of orange-red on me, rather than a real vibrant red, but it’s very flattering. One thing I found weird, when the colour faded, it ended up looking really pink, similar in tone to Revlon’s Cherries in the Snow! It’s still a very pretty colour, and almost looks like a pretty pink lipstain.

The colour lasts really well, it does fade a bit, but not much. Mine held up really well most of the day at work, surviving many cups of tea, a massive tuna salad, and an apple. Impressive. After all that, the colour had faded a bit, and held feathered a little at the edges, but it still looked good.

As for the moisturising claims…well. I wouldn’t say it was moisturising as such, just maybe less drying than other lipsticks? I’ve worn it for a week, and I can’t see any difference in my lips, but then I am sat in a centrally heated office all day, which is pretty drying, so who knows, for other people, it might work.

All in all, I’m chuffed to bits with it, and will be going back for more shades. It is a little pricey (£7.99 in Boots at the moment, if my memory serves me), but it’s a great lipstick.

Anyone else used this? What do you think?
